This is the first year a naval team has entered. The three Defender owners – Petty Officers Mike Sawdon and Ashton Peace, accompanied by Mike’s fiancée Lucy Weigel – will comprise team ‘Senior Service’.
Sponsored by Babcock and Richards Chassis, the team is one of 45 to be taking part in the sixth and final H4H Rally, a fundraising event in aid of Help for Heroes which sets off on 13 June. Titled ‘Final Mission’, the rally is a series of non-speed competitive challenges that take place over 2000 miles through seven European countries, and encorporates military sites that commemorate the D-Day landings and the end of WW2.
‘I have been a keen off-roader since the age of 17 when I bought my first Defender and so it made sense to take part,' says Mark. 'We found out about the H4H Rally at the Peterborough Land Rover Owner show and applied for a place shortly after. I’ve always been a great supporter of H4H so I’m happy to do something I love for the Charity.’
The teams will set off from the Littlecote House Hotel, North Wiltshire on 13 June and travel across unknown terrains until the route concludes on the 27 June in Bavaria, Germany.
