When Trevor and Jan Rutters' three sons flew, the couple decided to take a gap year and spent two years driving their Defender 110 from Manchester down to Cape Aghulas on the east coast of Africa, via Europe and the Middle East, and then around Southern Africa. They self-funded the trip and raised money for SOS Children's Villages.
We featured their Land Rover, Sully, in an Overlanding Special in the March 2010 issue of LRO, and you can read more about their travels on their website - www.gapyear4x4.co.uk
However, since the big trip, Sully has sat in Trevor and Jan's drive when she should be out adventuring. So, she is now up for sale on LRO.com and looking for a new owner who can continue her adventures.
She's fully kitted out with gear including Patriot roof rack with heavy duty bolted raised legs, slide-under lockable aluminium table, customised stainless steel full-width lockable roof box, sand ladders, Eezi-Awn ladder, 1.4m Eezi-Awn T-Top tent with folding mattress, heavy duty cover and 4 zipped together sides to create ground living space, and a 3m Howling Moon awning with three zip together sides.
The rear side windows are replaced with gull wing lockable enclosures with 12v LED lighting strips creating a kitchen compartment on one side, and 'workshop' access to rear space from the other. There's a 50-litre National Luna Weekender fridge/freezer on slide access, and 27-litre Engel fridge or freezer. Both fridge/freezers will change between 12v and 220v.
Theres' a lockable clothes locker behind driver's seat (remove to access jump seat), rear stainless steel lockable sliding drawer system, rear shelf, back door with fitted storage for aluminium 1.2x0.5m kitchen table fitted with two ring gas cooker (clips onto Land Rover body), BBQ grid holders... and more!
