Despite the low-pressure system sweeping the UK, the ultimate loss of the final two races helped secure Land Rover BAR as overall winners, settled on Saturdays results.
Initially, race organisers rescheduled the racing for a midday start, to try and beat the worst of the weather. However, it wasn’t to be as organisers had to eventually admit defeat. With howling wind and driving rain, teams struggled to battle the weather and safely hoist the boats from the water into the historic dockyard.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited the new home of Land Rover BAR to present the prizes, meeting both team members and their families, concluding the day with a presentation ceremony.
Ben Ainslie stated that he was ‘really proud of what the team had achieved’. He continued, ‘not just on the water but with our team here at the facility in Portsmouth. To win the first Louis Vuitton America’s cup world series of 2015 in front of our home crowd is massive for our team, and sets up for a very exciting future.’
