After recently becoming the Green Lane Association’s (GLASS) first accredited tour operator, the newly-formed Yorkshire 4x4 Training now runs dedicated group training exercises for GLASS members, as well as providing local charities and r4x4 escue groups with training at greatly reduced rates.
‘We realized there are a lot of local organisations and charities that can benefit from learning 4x4 skills. It’s something we really enjoy doing, and our way of giving something back to the community,’ says co-founder Russ Dykes.
‘We cover all aspects of running greenlaning events, including safety risk assessing as well as how to use the vehicles, and we’re hoping to offer our training in more sites in 2016.’
You can also book bespoke off-road experience days for £350, which include use of a rally stage.
Meanwhile Russ has recently co-founded Yorkshire Overland Tours together with multilingual Dutchman and seasoned traveller Mark Janssen. ‘Russ and I have very complementary skills, experience, knowledge and ways of working,’ says Mark. ‘We also happen to like each other, share a sense of humor and just love to work with people.’
Three different overland itineraries are available in Morocco, three in the Pyrenees, with a recce to Portugal scheduled for later in 2015.
