Claiming an overall win during the industry’s most prestigious towcar competition, the Discovery 4 not only claimed the title for the ‘Over £50,000’ class, but also the ‘All-Wheel drive over 1,800kg’ category and the celebrated 'Caravan Club Towcar of the Year' top spot.
Subjected to a series of demanding trials at the Millbrook proving ground and judged on towing performance and ‘caravanability’, the Discovery held up to all caravanners' needs. This included accommodation for typical holiday gear and caravan essentials, ease for hooking a caravan up to the vehicle and the quality of the towing information in the handbook. Value for money was also taken into consideration by the judges.
Seven judges evaluated each vehicle for dynamic and ergonomic qualities, with a test route including tight, curving ‘country lanes’, 17% hill start and stops alongside circuits of Millbrook's high-speed bowl. Reversing tests were also carried out during the four day evaluation, where the Discovery shone through thanks to its useful Tow Assist guidance system and ability to accommodate ‘massive amounts of luggage’.
Grenville Chamberlain, Caravan Club Chairman said: 'It was great to see such a diverse variety of vehicles entered into the competition this year. There is a vehicle choice for everyone’s needs, whether you tow a small trailer tent or a large twin-axle caravan. On behalf of The Caravan Club, our congratulations go to all the winners and a special mention must go to Land Rover for its triumphant Discovery.'
