Thanks to LRO snappers and eagle-eyed readers, a picture is building of what Land Rover’s next-generation Discovery will look like. These spyshots are some of the clearest pictures that we’ve seen yet of the Disco 5.
VE65 WNG was first registered only a couple of weeks ago, and is powered by a new version of JLR’s Ingenium engine, this being a 3.0-litre petrol.
But it’s VN65 CJJ (a 2.0-litre diesel) that’s the most revealing. The camo wraps on other test vehicles have concealed parts of the front bumper and radiator grill– now the wraps are off, revealing right-angled corner intakes like those of the Discovery Vision concept, and a familiar diamond-pattern horizontal grill design.
Disco 3/4 design cues are few and far between, but there’s more than a fleeting resemblance to the Discovery Vision concept – and as the disguise is dropped from the front end, we’re seeing an even closer likeness to the Range Rover Sport.
Similarities between the Disco and the Rangie Sport are likely to run more than skin deep, with the Discovery 5 expected to be based on the Range Rover Sport’s lightweight aluminium architecture to improve efficiency and handling.
