A gifted car technician and keen adventurer, Amadeus was known for his love of cars and Africa, regularly participating in international rallies, driving his beloved Land Rover Defender. As an entrepreneur, he successfully built Matzker Automotive GmbH, an outstanding and unique Land Rover specialist.
Long-term readers of LRO will no doubt remember the stunning modified Matzker Land Rovers we featured in the past. 'One in particular really stands out for me,' says LRO's Mark Saville. Amadeus and his team created a unique suspension system for Discovery 3 and later for Disco 4 that not only allowed the maximum ride height to be increased but also enabled the car to travel at higher speeds across desert pistes without lowering the suspension, as the standard vehicle's system would normally do.
'The Disco 4 we featured in the December 2012 issue of LRO went like a rocket, with brakes to match. I'll never forget the blistering ride along the Autobahn or the incredible brakes that hauled us down from 150mph+ to around 60mph in the blink of an eye. He was an amazing engineer who created amazing vehicles.'
Matzker passed away from unsurvivable injuries following a car accident on January 24 while on his annual Africa tour. He died aged 49 leaving behind a wife and son. His wife and the staff are dedicated to continue the family-owned business in his name.
