Charles Fawcett is the brain behind Twisted Automotive, a Thirsk-based company who take the humble (and now discontinued) Land Rover Defender and ‘re-engineer’ it to be ‘faster, stronger, smoother and more luxurious’.
The Yorkshireman owns two Series Is, a 1953 80in and a 1954 107in, and was greeted into the club by Rep Brendan Llewellin.
As part of this milestone he received a signed copy of ‘Land Rover: The Formative Years’, a book by Series I expert John Smith.
Fawcett said: ‘I have been involved in Land Rover all my life; Twisted has been running for 15 years and deals with just the Defender. However having purchased a few Series I’s for my own collection, I’m now in a position where I can spend a little time with older Series models so I joined the club.
‘I was surprised to be presented with a copy of Legend (Series One Club Magazine) and Brendan was super friendly and thoroughly excited about some of the vehicles I own. At some point I will build my collection as I have various Series II's and Series III's as well as my Series Is.’
The Land Rover Series One Club is the largest Land Rover club in the world with members and representatives all over the globe, including LRO’s very own Mark Saville, and said they were ‘honoured’ to have Charles as a member.
