It was a family affair on Merseyside as the handover of 100,000th Discovery Sport fell on Mother’s Day and it got a personalised makeover for the young family who took it home.
The Lipton family unknowingly purchased the 100,000th and mother Natalie Lipton’s Corris Grey Discovery Sport HSE was given some very special touches with the help of her sons Jacob and Noah.
The kids were given a secret mission at the Liverpool plant to help personalise the car for their mum with some guidance from the staff at Land Rover.
Specially designed child seats and TV screens were put in the back of the seats and personal tread plates with ‘The Liptons’ inscribed were fitted. Other unique touches included wellies for all the family, a picnic blanket and Barbour jacket.
Paul Cleaver, Discovery Sport Vehicle Programme Director, said: ‘It’s fantastic that the Discovery Sport has reached this significant milestone. To know that this car has resonated with customers across the world is a testament to the whole team involved in its creation and delivery.
‘The Discovery Sport is a truly versatile family car so it’s fitting that we are celebrating with such a special project from the Land Rover family to the Lipton family. It was fantastic meeting Noah and Jacob, they were enthusiastic, energetic and full of great ideas – definitely budding future car designers!
After production started in October 2014, the vehicle has proved to be a hit amongst families with one in four Land Rovers produced being a Discovery Sport. One leaves the factory floor every 2 mins 40 secs.
