There’s always been something fascinating about ex-military vehicles – like there’s a backstory of darting behind enemy lines under the cover of darkness laden with troops on a secret reconnaissance mission. Or something like that.
Whether their lives have actually been that exciting or not, 250 lots of ex-military vehicles, spares, tyres and trailers are to be auctioned in the first online Land Rover-specific auction facilitated by Witham Specialist Vehicles Ltd and timed to end next Friday, June 24.
The auction contains a host of interesting vehicles up for grabs – a genuine WMIK 110, Wolf 90 & 110, Pulse ambulances, Dutch army Lightweights, Penman trailers and much more.
Parts-wise you can find reconditioned gearboxes and engines, propshafts, exhausts, tyres, bumpers, bonnets, doors – you name it, its there!
The auctions end on Friday June 24 and LRO was invited to browse the lots as the auction was being uploaded. Star of the auction is the WMIK – the last one they have to sell, but the Pulse ambulances will appeal to those looking for a Land Rover camper.
Slightly more common, but no less desirable, are the 2.5 N/A Ninetys and One Tens – there are very few left in service now, so you’re running out of time to get one direct. There are also a few 130s and even a TDCi Defender 110 double cab.
Bidding has already started on some items – and items ending will be staggered to end at minute intervals. The listing will extend if a flurry of late bids come to prevent people ‘sniping’, giving buyers who have been outbid a chance to up their bid to secure an item.
Douglas Landy, Director of Witham Special Vehicles, said: ‘We started out with 100 lots and it’s grown! The system we’ve got in place takes away people coming in at the last minute and taking it away – it’s a much fairer system for everyone.’
Douglas recommends getting registered for the auction early. ‘We’ve had people leave it to the last minute to register and there’s been a problem, so they’ve missed out,’ he says. ‘If they’d registered early and put in a low bid, they’d know their account is working.’
If you’ve browsed Witham’s website before you’ll know how much detail is given on their auctions.
‘We appreciate that people can’t always get over to inspect the lots,’ explains Douglas, ‘so we put up as many pictures as possible so people know exactly what they’re bidding on – and we say whether vehicles are a runner or parts are missing.’ That said, if you fancy a look around before you bid then visits are more than welcome at the impressive Lincolnshire site all next week from Monday, June 20 to Friday, June 24.
Ex-military Land Rover gear always gathers plenty of attention and if you want to get your hands on a bit of proper army gear, make sure you register right away. Have a look at what’s included in this auction and the other mouth-watering kit Witham Specialist Vehicles sells here.
Don’t forget a 5% buyer’s premium will be added to the final bid price – and 20% VAT will be added to that.
