Sean Conway says he used to be a miserable corporate photographer in London until he packed it all in. The only problem was he didn’t quite know what to do next. Since then he’s become the first and only man in history to swim the length of Britain from Land’s End to John O’Groats and in July this year, he completed a 4000-mile ultra-triathlon around the coastline of Britain.
As an adventurer it’s only right that he has a Land Rover and after a couple of years’ good use, his trusty 110 is now going up for auction to raise funds for, er, another Land Rover. The Zimbabwean-born traveller’s 110 ‘Mana’, named after Mana Pools where he used to watch his father fish, is up for sale on eBay through Twisted’s sister company LR Motors, which exclusively sell Defenders.
The 1998 300Tdi Defender (which you can see in the video walkaround below) is fully kitted up and has already garnered plenty of interest. Mana has loads of extras like a snorkel, bull bar, spotlights, spade, axe, jerry cans, kayak mount, bike rack and a handy single bed – perfect for an adventure.
Sean says: ‘I remember growing up in Africa, sitting on the bonnet of an old Series in Mana Pools on the banks of the Zambezi River in Zimbabwe watching my father catch tiger fish for dinner. As the sun set and our dinner caught, we’d head back home on the bumpy tracks. I was short enough to stand on the seats and giggle as we bounced all over the place. It was there in the early 80s where my love for Land Rovers began.
‘It took me nearly three decades before I eventually got my hands on my first Land Rover and here she is, Mana, named after pools where my love began. I’ve had her for the past two years and we’ve had some amazing adventures together. The only reason I’m selling Mana is I need a Defender with rear seats, so sadly it’s time for her to move to a new home.’
