The book is the complete tale of Alec and Jan Forman's 14-month, 40,000-mile, 29-country Series III adventure.
At the beginning of February 1977, Alec and Jan drove out of Brentwood, Essex. Waving goodbye to family and friends, they were eager to set off on what would be a journey of almost 40,000 miles, through 29 countries in Europe, Africa and Asia.
Captivated by the immediate cultural warmth of Africa, Alec and Jan would soon experience more than the treacherous roads, to challenge their route and their hearts. An "Angel” of the desert watched out for their safety, as they crossed the Sahara.
The lush blue waters of the Mediterranean Sea welcomed Alec and Jan to the shores of Europe and the land of love. Driving their sand dusted Land-Rover off the ferry into Sicily brought a refreshing opportunity to explore the luxuries of the western world, the bustling tourist sites and a chance to revitalise their spirits.
Following a life-changing experience in the serenity of Europe, Alec and Jan headed East to the rugged and awe-inspiring lands of Iran and Afghanistan. Along the way they would encounter humbling hospitality, as they interacted with the locals, and would come face-to-face with the heart-racing adventure they had always dreamed of.
Continuing enroute, Alec and Jan traveled through Pakistan, India and finally onto Nepal and to the top of the World. They relished the opportunity to see firsthand the exquisite colours, artistry and enthralling day-to-day life of cultures seemingly as old as time itself.
Following on from their trip of a lifetime, Alec and Jan continued to seek out a life most extraordinary. Seven years later they found themselves living with their young family in West Africa and once again were out on the road embracing the adventures that came their way.
