What to consider when buying.

Chassis rot. Look for dodgy repairs, or rust masked by gungy underseal
Bulkhead. Top corners and door hinge mounting points should be checked for rust
Footwells. Can dissolve with rust. Lift mats to check
Front swivels. Check for signs of pitting
Engine. Look for blue oil smoke, black diesel smoke or white smoke on starting (water in the bores), and lift off the rocker cover cap to check for 'mayonnaise' - a healthy engine won't have any
Suspension. Bushes should feel tight and firm, if loose they need replacing.
Gear selection. Is it all okay? Is the clutch quiet? Do the high-low and difflock control work properly?
Steering. Power steering seals deteriorate and allow leakage.
Interior. Trim gets battered on hard-working vehicles.
Doors suffer from bi-metallic corrosion which perforates door skins, and the steel door frames rust away.
