What’s the story?
Andy Bacon needed another project. Instead of the Ford Fiesta XR2 he’d hoped to find, he came home with this Disco 1. His previous (and first) Land Rover had been a much-loved and much-improved Series III truck cab, but following a serious industrial accident, Andy no longer felt comfortable driving it. That’s why he was on the cusp of returning to his first passion, hotting-up already fast Fords. The Disco 1 came along in the nick of time.
Our favourite bit?
Andy worked on the Disco in his back garden, over the course of eight, very busy weekends, to complete the work already begun. He bought the part repaired Disco from a mate for £300, the same scrap value the local garage was offering. He’s now got a thoroughly well sorted greenlaner-cum-weekend camper. Top job.
And the verdict from LRO writer Mark Saville?
This Disco and Andy were clearly destined to be together. Before buying the Disco, he’d previously down some mechanical jobs on it for his mate, so he knew the vehicle well. Both it and Andy were on the brink of leaving the Land Rover scene, but now they’re both firmly back in the thick of the action.
