What’s the story?
Jon and Kieron Stynes, a father-and-son team have used a pair of old Land Rovers to make one superb Series III trials machine. Rather than a quick lash-up of a tired 90, this vehicle represents a total ground-up rebuild and restoration of a classic 88in.
Our favourite bit?
We like the fact that Jon and Kieron were determined not to follow the crowd by building a Defender trials machine. It’s great that they went the Series III route. But, best of all, they’d made such a great-looking job of it.
And the verdict from LRO writer Peter Galilee?
The noise in the cab is incredible, the screaming engine and gearbox reverberating through aluminium panels that vibrate together to make a noise like a bandsaw cutting through stainless steel sheet. We’re doing up to 55mph (with no overdrive) on a small twisty road. It’s certainly memorable.
Vehicle: Series III
Model: 88in truck cab
Engine: ACR 2.25 four-cylinder petrol
