What’s the story?
Reaching a milestone to be proud of in the final year of Defender production at the original Land Rover factory, the brief for this one-off Defender was as disarmingly straightforward as it was broad. Being the two-millionth line-built Series/Defender, it celebrates where the Land Rover came from, and where it has ended up. We helped build it, and you could own it.
Themed around Red Wharf Bay, where the Land Rover shape was first drawn in the sand, this is more than just an ‘Autobiography’ version: Defender 2,000,000 is badged and engraved with the contour lines of Red Wharf Bay itself on the front wing, with raw aluminium poking through, harking back to the original vehicle. As paint technology has moved on, it's got a special satin finish – one end of the scale, and the other. The interior is unique with bespoke seats and trims.
Bonhams will auction ‘Defender 2,000,000’ for charity at its New Bond Street headquarters in London on December 16. Only two cars have ever previously occupied the hallowed space inside the building, going for millions of pounds each. This Defender has got quite an act to follow!
Our favourite bit?
LRO was honoured to be invited to join a specially selected team of Defender owners, fans and enthusiasts in building this unique commemorative 90. This special Defender just needs an owner!
And the verdict from LRO editor Mike Goodbun?
‘I’m proud to say I’ve left my mark on this milestone model. It is an honour that will live with me, as I’m sure it will for the 32 others invited to help build this special vehicle.’
