What’s the story?
Peter Skilton meets the inspired and inventive Norwegian creator of an air-sprung, V8 Series II that ‘eats forests for breakfast’, and goes for a ride in the unique vehicle. Frode Tverdal, the gentleman in question, first found the Land Rover in 2004, when it was just a rolling chassis. Now, it’s a fantastic testament to his skill and imagination.
Our favourite bit?
Inside the Series II, the first thing that catches your eye is the custom-made instrument panel and centre console, furnished with perfectly symmetrical switches and each labelled in Norwegian. Behind the controls, it instantly becomes clear just how easy it is to drive this Series II through dense forestry with sticky mud and slippery leaves everywhere.
And the verdict from LRO writer Peter Skilton?
Although it’s an off-road vehicle, Forde takes meticulous care of it. Every panel is straight with a perfect paint job. This is undoubtedly one of the maddest and most different Series vehicles I’ve ever seen. You can’t fail to be impressed by it.
